First up I just wanna say I really wanted to love this product.
I had read so many good reviews, watched so many vlogs adoring it, and was lemming to add this to my daily makeup routine hard. I really wanted a BB that provided great coverage and staying power for my work day. I thought this one would be the answer.
Unfortunately as of writing this I am on day four of giving it a fair chance, and to be honest so far it is not living up to my expectations.
It's not that it doesn't go on smoothly, because it does. It matches my skin tone beautifully, and really does give me a flawless look. Initially. It's that it doesn't stay that way. Three or four hours later this stuff is literally melting and rubbing off my face giving a patchy appearance, and gathering in my cheek pores like there's a sweet rave party going on there.
To give you an idea of what I'm dealing with here's a day by day breakdown of how I applied it & the outcome. Sorry guys no photos, I just wasn't pleased at all with my appearance by the end of each day enough to immortalize it.
Okay so on the first day I just went ahead and applied this after using my everyday moisturizer, Olay Total Effects Sensitive Skin with SPF. After application I set this by patting on Etude House BB Pact powder. Applied makeup as usual.
Within three hours oil was starting to show through, so I blotted with my Za Blotting Papers. Suddenly I noticed that the BB almost looked streaky and rubbed off in places! Four hours in I had to re-powder my cheeks just to look like I had something on my face! This was especially noticeable on my cheeks where it looked like my pores had sucked in all the BB like tiny black holes. Groan.
Right. So maybe primer would help the staying power I thought. On day two, after my normal moisturizer I went ahead and applied NP Set Pre Foundation Primer and set the BB afterward with EH BB again. IT SEEMED WORSE.
By halfway through my work day I was thinking - Holy Shit This Stuff Sucks. Not only was my base rubbing off but it looked seriously blotchy and shiny. Not cool.
Switched out my moisturizer for Dr G's Mentor Rx for Oily Skin. Cancelled the primer stage and thought about my powder set. Perhaps as Etude House BB Pact is intended as a stand alone product it might be hindering the performance of the BB Cream? Maybe....please? Today I set with a plain translucent powder from Natio.
It was a bit better. I got to just under the five hour mark before things started getting out of control. Blotting helped a little then I resorted to the EH BB Pact to touch up toward the end of the day. The BB Cream was still pretty content hanging out in my cheek pores though.
Sigh.... so let's try this again. OK. So that pore thing is pissing me off, why not prime with a product that's silicone based and meant for disguising this shit. Prior to applying BB I started with Garniers Perfect Blur 5 Second. I set once again with Natio translucent powder.
I felt it held out a lot longer today. I was still reaching for the blotting papers 3-4 hours into the day, and yes by the time 5pm rolled around things were getting sketchy - ie some pore notice-ability, but at least I made it from midday to 3pm without reaching for my BB pact.
That said I'm still not convinced about the AMAZE FACTOR that everyone's been toting on this product. I don't even have problematic skin, just combination crap really, so it surprises me I've had such issues with this product when everyone else loves it. And it's not a BB cream thing, I love BB creams and usually find they work well for me. It's not that I expect it to stay perfect all day either, I'm used to my base wearing off as the day progresses, its the way this deteriorates and actually makes my skin look worse that pisses me off.
I'm not ready to ditch this yet, maybe it's my determination to find out why it's not delivering, I don't know. But I do know I'm going to attempt not using setting powder at all and I may even try a makeup setting spray afterward to see if this prolongs its wear. Watch this space - I will be thrilled to be proved wrong on this product as I love the way my skin looks with this for that first hour or so!
EDIT: Okay so I've been retrying this BB over the weekend, and it doesn't seem as bad as long as I use a very light moisturizer underneath and set with a translucent power. It's not a HG product for me, and I doubt I'd be buying this again, but it is usable at least.
