How I lightened up

I've been toying with the idea of changing up my hair for a while now.  Earlier in the year I even went so far as to strip most of the color out of my hair using a color remover, then tried growing it out for a while.  I got bored fast & redyed it red then back to dark brown (nearly black!) not long after.   After a bit of fade-age my hair has been a medium to dark brown for the last couple of months.  Well, until Friday that is.

On Friday night I re-employed the use of Jo Baz Hair Color Remover Max in the hopes of removing some of that dark brown dye.  While I've had pretty good results in the past, this time around my dye was hanging on for dear life and I only managed to get my hair to a medium brown shade.  The ends still looked like dark brown almost black.

I decided to leave my hair overnight before tackling the blonding process.  So I put in a hair mask, rinsed out and hit the hay.

The Blonde Ultime bleach I purchased was the LXX extreme lightening version.  Yeah I bought two packs.  I was pretty committed to this project, so thought of having an extra pack as backup.  Glad I did as after the first round of bleaching & leaving it in for the max processing time of minutes, my hair was still orange.  I was tempted to wait it out but my hair was seriously not getting any lighter and I doubted that the bleach was even actively doing anything by that time.

After rinsing out I skipped the conditioning treatment and blow dryed on low heat... and then I did something people seriously advise against... I used that second box and bleached again.  This time I popped a plastic bag on to keep my hair warm & stop the product from drying out so quickly.  I left that sucker on for 60 minutes.

Gasp.

It kind of worked.... (Here I am with my backup hat that I purchased in case this went REALLY wrong).

I am not disappointed considering what I started with.  Unfortunately I skirted a bit close to my roots and my hair is mega white there, but shit happens, so I'll be living with it for now.

After care wise I'll be hitting that Ultime Intensive mask and Ultime Hair BB serum regularly.  A friend suggested Ice Flower Mousse for some color correction help, and a serum for taming the frizzies after styling.  I've also purchased a sample size Toni & Guy Heat Protection mist to try out before drying & straightening.

Yeah even MORE hair products....

Yeah so speaking of drying & straightening, I may have gone overboard with this purchase.  But TBH my current hair dryer is shit, and my GHDs are nearly ten years old.  (Still going to keep them as a backup/spare).

Disclaimer: I am in no way a professional hairdresser, I did not F up my hair by bleaching it twice, but everyone's different so I don't suggest doing this!
