One for the birds: Holika Holika Prime Youth Bird's Nest Gold Leaf Cream

I'm not usually one to dive head first into a product without knowing a little something about its efficacy, hell who am I kidding - I do this all the time... but to be honest on this one I would have liked to know a little more about it before shelling out over $200 AUD online for it.

Luckily for me I found Jolse had it for the much more reasonable price of $59.98 USD, which is still a pretty penny for a face cream, $81.47 AUD as of writing this post.

So what makes it so special?  Other than the obvious gorgeousness of the packaging?

Which is ironically not as pretty as this picture. More on that later :|

So about "Prime Youth" ... is she a sassy Autobot?

No, but god damn I would pay for that!  This product comes from the Prime Youth range put out by K-Beauty brand Holika Holika (owned by Enprani, which in turn was founded by the Samsung & CJ Group).   For a quick round up of the Holika Holika brand check their site here :)

TBH I am one of those aged human beings out of the market range of this brand, but I have always found their branding so fun & alluring that I can't help myself.  So when I came across their anti-aging range, marketed as Prime Youth, who was I to resist?

The Prime Youth range also has the upper hand in my skincare loving heart with their classy & fun packaging, and of course amazing ingredients such as gold, caviar, black snail, and of course birds nest....

Let's Talk Hype - What the hell is the deal?

So this product - it's all about two star ingredients: Gold and Birds Nest.  Not actual birds nest but extract from swiftlet nests which apparently assists with collagen production.  These pricey globs of bird saliva are highly prized in healthcare and cuisine in China, but as to what active benefit they have on skincare is still up for debate.  The second ingredient, gold, on the other hand is a little less confronting but still a bit out there as to skin benefits.  The blue jar version I purchased contains colloidal gold (which is not visible in the cream itself) topped off with gold leaf, which you get a very tiny amount of on the top layer of the cream.  Gold reportedly assists with healing, circulation, and rejuvenating your skin. Hmmm.

First Impressions: This Packaging Though

This is one seriously luxuriously packaged product.  I was under some assumption that the jar would be a matte finish but this is all gloss baby.  All gloss and thick shiny gold plastic. And somehow it does not come off as tacky at all.  Let's just say this is some super gorgeous packaging, which is apparently refillable (somehow).  Also, that gold leaf, seriously.

After one week of use: Not as pretty yo.

One Week In...

So my thoughts.  Well using this has certainly been a pleasure, or should I say a luxury, so far.  The "cream" has more of a thick balm like texture which "melts" down when applied and absorbs quite easily.  The scent is definitely a perfume floral one, and may not be to everyone's taste, although I find it mellows out after application.  In a way it reminds me of the uber fancy skin creams my nana used to use so I'm not completely put off by the fact it is scented.

But want you really want to know is whether it works right?  I think at one week in it's really too early for me to say whether this product is a god-send, but TBH I have been waking up with baby soft skin EVERY morning since I started using this as my night cream in place of sleeping packs.  Also my skin looks glowier.  Hmmm, maybe it's the Vit C, but I have been using that for a while now, and suddenly I dunno, it just looks more luminous for some reason?

I'm going to keep using this every night this month, so let's see how it goes!
